NUMEROUS WEEKEND ARRESTS MADE, DRUGS SEIZED

(10/2/2006) NEW HAVEN – Over the past few days, several people were arrested on narcotics and other charges and numerous warrants were served by the NHPD’s Street Interdiction Detail.

On Thursday, 28 September, in the area of Whalley and Sherman avenues, Jenny Santamauro, 18, of West Haven, was arrested and charged with possession of a narcotic substance and possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school. Police seized four pills.

At Whalley Avenue and Jewel Street, Warren Logon, 37, of 906 Elm Street, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school. Police seized $406 and four bags of marijuana.

Carlos Vargas, 18, of 30 Hawthorne Road, was arrested on Ferry Street. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school. Fernando Mateo, 18, of 76 Exchange Street, and Barry Ayala-Candelario, 22, of 100 Judith Terrace, were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school. Police seized $19 and 13 bags of marijuana.

At 54 County Street, Bryant Cobb, 29, of 60 Stanley Street, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school and motor vehicle charges. Police seized $384 and nine bags of marijuana.

Terry Tyson, 21, of 17 Shepard Street, was arrested in the area of 1450 Chapel Street and charged with carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle. Police seized a seven-inch knife.

On Friday, 29 September, Keith Highsmith, 45, and Gwendolyn Wright, 43, both of 306-308 Greenwich Avenue, and Thomas Bethea, 44, of 121 Rosette Street, were arrested at 306-308 Greenwich Avenue. They were charged with possession of a narcotic substance, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school, operating a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school. Police seized $739, five bags of crack cocaine, 1-1/4 ounce of crack cocaine, and two bags of marijuana.

At 55 Bassett Street, Challis Taylor, 20, of 114 Lilac Street, was arrested and charged with possession of a narcotic substance, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school and trespass. Police seized $413 and 30 bags of crack cocaine.

Richard Rogus, 40, of 25 Warren Place, Rebecca Alberino, 28, of East Haven, Anthony McKinney, 29, of East Haven, and Jameison Cox, 21, of Bridgeport, were arrested in the area of Ferry Street and Middletown Avenue. Rogus was charged with sale of narcotics, sale of narcotics within 1500 feet of a school, possession of a narcotic substance, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school, and interfering with police. Alberino was charged with motor vehicle and conspiracy to narcotics charges. McKinney and Cox were charged with possession of a narcotic substance, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school and possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school. Police seized $93, three bags of crack cocaine and five bags of heroin.

At 114 Bristol Street, LeQuincey Smith, 21, of 58 Dixwell Avenue, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school and trespass. Police seized one bag of marijuana.

Tamar Bivens, 19, of 120 Hemingway Avenue, was arrested in the area of 101 Hazel Street and charged with possession of a narcotic substance, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school and possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school. Police seized $91 and three bags of heroin. Police also served an outstanding warrant on Bivens and on Sean Patterson, 19, of 88 Emerson Street.

On Saturday, 30 September, in the area of 597 Winchester Avenue, Justin Bordeaux, 24, of 88 Cleveland Road, was arrested and charged with possession of a narcotic substance, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school and possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell within 1500 feet of a school. Police seized $4,522, a cell phone and 24 bags of crack cocaine.

In the area of Ferry and English streets, Fred Negron, 42, of Meriden, was arrested and charged with possession of a narcotic substance, possession of a narcotic substance within 1500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia within 1500 feet of a school and interfering with police. Police seized one bag of crack cocaine and a crack pipe. Negron was also served with an outstanding warrant from Wallingford for violation of probation and sexual assault in the second degree.

Ricky Rogers, 39, of 25 Warren Place, was arrested on Sunday, 1 October, in the area of 131 Cedar Hill Avenue. Rogers was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics within 1500 feet of a school, burglary in the second degree, interfering with police and three counts of risk of injury to a minor. Police seized one bag of crack cocaine.
